ٱلشَّمْ

Ash-Shams

(The Sun)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful

Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 1

وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا

By the sun and its radiance.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 2

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا

And the moon as it follows it.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 3

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا

And the day as it reveals it.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 4

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا

And the night as it conceals it.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 5

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا

And the sky and He who built it.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 6

وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا

And the earth and He who spread it.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 7

وَنَفْسٍۢ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا

And the soul and He who proportioned it.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 8

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا

And inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 9

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا

Successful is he who purifies it.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 10

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا

Failing is he who corrupts it.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 11

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ

Thamood denied in its pride.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 12

إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا

When it followed its most wicked.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 13

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَا

The messenger of God said to them, “This is the she-camel of God, so let her drink.”
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 14

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا

But they called him a liar, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled it.
Surah 91 - Ash-Shams - 15

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَا

And He does not fear its sequel.
Summarized notes on Surah Ash-Shams

Consider the signs of God - the sun, moon, day, night, heaven, earth and soul. The one who purifies soul is successful. Those who corrupt it, will be ruined, like the people of Saleh (PBUH), who hurt God's sign - the she-camel.
