ٱلْغَاشِيَة

Al-Ghaashiyah

(The Overwhelming Event)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful

Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 1

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ

Has there come to you the news of the overwhelming?
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 2

وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ

Faces on that Day will be shamed.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 3

عَامِلَةٌۭ نَّاصِبَةٌۭ

Laboring and exhausted.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 4

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةًۭ

Roasting in a scorching Fire.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 5

تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍۢ

Given to drink from a flaming spring.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 6

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍۢ

They will have no food except thorns.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 7

لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍۢ

That neither nourishes, nor satisfies hunger.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 8

وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاعِمَةٌۭ

Faces on that Day will be joyful.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 9

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌۭ

Satisfied with their endeavor.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 10

فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍۢ

In a lofty Garden.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 11

لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةًۭ

In it you will hear no nonsense.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 12

فِيهَا عَيْنٌۭ جَارِيَةٌۭ

In it is a flowing spring.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 13

فِيهَا سُرُرٌۭ مَّرْفُوعَةٌۭ

In it are raised beds.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 14

وَأَكْوَابٌۭ مَّوْضُوعَةٌۭ

And cups set in place.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 15

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌۭ

And cushions set in rows.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 16

وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ

And carpets spread around.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 17

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ

Do they not look at the camels—how they are created?
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 18

وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ

And at the sky—how it is raised?
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 19

وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ

And at the mountains—how they are installed?
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 20

وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ

And at the earth—how it is spread out?
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 21

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌۭ

So remind. You are only a reminder.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 22

لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ

You have no control over them.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 23

إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ

But whoever turns away and disbelieves.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 24

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ

God will punish him with the greatest punishment.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 25

إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ

To Us is their return.
Surah 88 - Al-Ghaashiyah - 26

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم

Then upon Us rests their reckoning.
Summarized notes on Surah Al-Ghaashiyah

On the Day of Judgement, disbelievers will be punished and the believers will get Paradise. Ponder over signs of God. Muhammad (PBUH) is only a warner. To God is our return, and we shall be held to account.
