عَبَسَ

Abasa

(He Frowned)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful

Surah 80 - Abasa - 1

عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

He frowned and turned away.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 2

أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ

When the blind man approached him.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 3

وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ

But how do you know? Perhaps he was seeking to purify himself.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 4

أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ

Or be reminded, and the message would benefit him.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 5

أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ

But as for him who was indifferent.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 6

فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ

You gave him your attention.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 7

وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ

Though you are not liable if he does not purify himself.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 8

وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ

But as for him who came to you seeking.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 9

وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ

In awe.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 10

فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ

To him you were inattentive.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 11

كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌۭ

Do not. This is a Lesson.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 12

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ

Whoever wills, shall remember it.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 13

فِى صُحُفٍۢ مُّكَرَّمَةٍۢ

On honorable pages.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 14

مَّرْفُوعَةٍۢ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ

Exalted and purified.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 15

بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍۢ

By the hands of scribes.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 16

كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍۢ

Noble and devoted.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 17

قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥ

Perish man! How thankless he is!
Surah 80 - Abasa - 18

مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ

From what did He create him?
Surah 80 - Abasa - 19

مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ

From a sperm drop He created him, and enabled him.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 20

ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ

Then He eased the way for him.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 21

ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ

Then He puts him to death, and buries him.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 22

ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ

Then, when He wills, He will resurrect him.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 23

كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ

But no, he did not fulfill what He has commanded him.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 24

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ

Let man consider his food.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 25

أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّۭا

We pour down water in abundance.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 26

ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّۭا

Then crack the soil open.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 27

فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّۭا

And grow in it grains.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 28

وَعِنَبًۭا وَقَضْبًۭا

And grapes and herbs.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 29

وَزَيْتُونًۭا وَنَخْلًۭا

And olives and dates.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 30

وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًۭا

And luscious gardens.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 31

وَفَـٰكِهَةًۭ وَأَبًّۭا

And fruits and vegetables.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 32

مَّتَـٰعًۭا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ

Enjoyment for you, and for your livestock.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 33

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ

But when the Deafening Noise comes to pass.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 34

يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ

The Day when a person will flee from his brother.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 35

وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ

And his mother and his father.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 36

وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ

And his consort and his children.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 37

لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ شَأْنٌۭ يُغْنِيهِ

Every one of them, on that Day, will have enough to preoccupy him.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 38

وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ مُّسْفِرَةٌۭ

Faces on that Day will be radiant.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 39

ضَاحِكَةٌۭ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌۭ

Laughing and rejoicing.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 40

وَوُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌۭ

And Faces on that Day will be covered with misery.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 41

تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ

Overwhelmed by remorse.
Surah 80 - Abasa - 42

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَفَرَةُ ٱلْفَجَرَةُ

These are the faithless, the vicious.
Summarized notes on Surah Abasa

Don't ignore anyone who shows even a small interest in God. Those who don't need guidance/reminder will be punished, and it is not the fault [of Muhammad (PBUH)] if they are not purified. They are ungrateful even after God created them just a drop of semen, and gave provisions and food. On the Last Day, it will be every man for himself. On that Day, believers will rejoice.
